More translations!

  • this way
  • to accompany (food pairing)
  • rice with eggs
  • more or less
  • to scratch

I also added another translation to "to remember"

I've added a bunch of grammar-y things:

  • question particle
  • classifier (for round objects)
  • classifier (for large objects or animals)
  • a car
  • to know (familiar with someone or something)
  • type, kind
  • many kinds of things
  • to add (to a food or a mixture)
  • place

Some of those words are italicized, which means it isn't a direct translation, but more like a definition because it's hard to come up with a direct translation. I noticed that wiktionary does this, so I've added the feature here as well.

After listening to a previous conversation with my aunt, I think I understand the difference between chiu1 gue1 and gak(8) gue1. So both are in the database now! (under the word "luffa"). I've also added these other translations

  • lazy
  • here
  • there
  • how (to what degree)
  • how large
  • how late
  • how high

More translations!

  • wet
  • last night
  • bitter
  • to peel (with a blade)
  • mango

And I also unhid "towel gourd". I'm not really sure if "towel gourd" is the best main word for this. I might switch it to luffa or Chinese okra but I'm still trying to understand what exactly is gak8 gue1? More to come on that later.

I was curious how many translations I've added to the site, and while it's impossible to get an exact number, I did write up some SQL to get an approximation. It's now listed on the About page!

I was thinking about all the different ways to say "more" in Teochew, and I realize I don't even understand how to properly use each of them. It's one of those things that you pick up from hearing it, but I don't really the nuances of when it's appropriate to use one term or another. So, I need to ask my aunt more about this.

I did add a bunch of new translations:

  • five dollars
  • ten dollars
  • sunny
  • drizzle
  • all day
  • thing
  • cake
  • plate
  • breakfast (I already had one translation, but I added another one)

I also fixed a bug that made it so searching traditional characters resulted in nothing being found in the "Words containing..." table

And finally, I started working on a tagging feature. Right now words are in categories, and there are times where I feel like a word could be in multiple categories. So I'm trying to see if a tagging system will be better. Of course this means I need to go and add tags to everything, and that will be a slow process.
