Today, I added the translation for the word "spatula". That's it. Just spatula. Adding this one word was honestly so much work because I had to add another glyph to my custom font.
But there's more work going on behind the scenes to handle Traditional vs Simplified characters! And once again, if I'm doing things correctly, you really won't notice a difference. Yet.

I did a big rehaul of how the Chinese characters are stored in the database. Previously, I was always storing the simplified versions of characters by default, but this was problematic because I found examples where two different traditional characters simplified to the same character.
Anyway, if I did everything correctly...you won't notice anything different. yet.
Finally, here are the new translations since the last update:
- owner (of a store or company)
- fresh
- beach
- manager
- bottle
- necklace
- earring

I realized I had a bug in my site settings implementation. On page load, if you had dark mode enabled, it would still have the Light Mode option selected if you looked at the site settings. But I fixed that!
I've also added more translations:
- dream
- to fly
- short (height)
- curry
- peas
- ladle
- runny nose
- throat mucus

Hello! I went camping last week and I've been very busy helping out with another Teochew project so I haven't had as much time to update this site. But I do want to make sure I'm still logging the words that I'm learning!
Here are the new translations for today:
- hat
- loud
- watery
- soft
- to swim
- to exchange

So I went and added a new feature! Now you can see my extra notes in the flashcards for any words that have them. They only show up after you "flip" the flashcard to reveal the Chinese. I thought this was going to be something really easy to add and it turns out it was a total pain in the butt. I'm also not super happy with how it looks, but I don't have better ideas right now. I got a little lazy in terms of committing my changes and testing them out, so hopefully I didn't introduce any bugs 😬
I've also added some more translations:
- to take a break
- saucer
- pot
- jar
- sick
And I added another translation for "to call on the phone" and I also added an extra note for it, to add some clarification. Check out the translation page if you want to see it!
