I've made my Chinese character parsing tool slightly nicer on mobile. And by that I mean the characters will wrap to the next line rather than make it stretch the page horizontally. It still kind of looks bad when that happens, but at least now you don't have to scroll.
Apart from that, here are the new translations for today:
- bicycle
- white person
- ever
- nasty
- tomato (which already existed, but another translation was added)
And I've added two sentences:
- I learned one new word
- I've never heard it before

Oh man, I've been so busy with other things that I haven't updated in a while. The last time I worked on this site, I was knee deep into some crazy code to get my chinese character parser to be able to parse both traditional AND simplified characters. Maybe it works? I don't know, but I just tracked down a bug today.
I've added three new translations to the site:
- whistle
- to pressure someone into doing something
- tired
And I was going to continue, but honestly, adding those three was already so much work! With all the work that I'm putting into WTCS, I haven't had much time for this. But I do want to try and more regularly update my own site, because when I'm working on my own site, I'm increasing my Teochew knowledge little by little. The WTCS stuff has been great, but I'm mainly seeing it as a big coding project, and something that's helping out the broader community. learningteochew is for me though.

I've made some small improvements to the chinese character searching. Now the hover over text won't show duplicates or empty translations. I was about to start implementing handling simplified characters, and then I realized that this can get very complicated because there are some characters that are both considered simplified in one reading and traditional in a different reading. And should I be considering the Traditional/Simplified site setting?! Why did Chinese have to be so complicated with two writing systems?
Anyway, here are the new translations for today:
- deer
- vinegar
- to drag
- to dip in
- to scoop

I've started working on an exciting new feature!!! I have been wanting a tool that can take some chinese characters and translate them for me, not in any sophisticated way like google translate does, but just go one by one and see if the translation is in my database. So now you can input a string of chinese characters in the search bar, and the app will show a breakdown of what each word is. Here's an example. It's not perfect right now, and I've noted a bunch of things I'd like to improve already.
Apart from that, here are today's new translations:
- never would have thought
- classifier (for sentences, words)
- a word
- last week
- smart (I already had two translations for this word, but my aunt taught me another one!)
