I started working on a big update: upgrading Bootstrap. We'll see how it goes! I'm working on it in a separate branch and if you really want, you can see the progress in the github repo.

Other than that, I've got more translations:

  • diarrhea
  • skin coining
  • dead
  • good idea
  • cured meat
  • a pair of chopsticks

By the way, with the word diarrhea, I feel like I've been saying it wrong my whole life. Or that most other people just...pronounce it differently than I do? I've added the more widely used pronunciation, but I also have a footnote for it.

It's been a little slow on updates lately, but I added a few more translations today:

  • to change
  • to fix
  • battery
  • it's time
  • waffle

  • to sing
  • I didn't hear it (under Sentences)

Yesterday someone had noted that I had a weird translation for Southeast Asia, which, when you come at it from English is true. There are better ways of saying "Southeast Asia" in Teochew. But I'm always adding words and phrases that I hear in Teochew, and then I need to translate that into English, and sometimes it's not so straightforward. So anyway, I've updated my footnotes for it, and it's making me think that I should include these extra translation notes on the flashcards page.

But, that's a bigger thing to tackle, so I've just added an issue for it in the github repo.

I've also fixed a bug in the translation for "She is watching tv". I realized I broke it when I was messing with the translation for the word "to see". Maybe I should have a better way of translating sentences that isn't prone to bug like this 🤔

Finally, here are some more translations that I've added:

  • pickled mustard greens
  • to send
  • to offer good wishes (well, I could have just said "to wish", but you know, that's not exactly what this word means)
  • Wishing you a happy birthday (This is listed under sentences, and hopefully I got this right. I've never actually said it out loud before)

I really do want to add more translations under Sentences, and I get nervous sometimes because I might not be translating the sentence in the best way. But I think it's good for me to just practice saying phrases even if it's not perfect.

There are now over 700 translations on this site! Here are the new ones for today's update:

  • Philadelphia
  • Germany
  • city
  • embarrassed
  • to retire
  • to kiss
  • to take photos
  • classifier (for small pieces)
  • seed
  • dried shrimp

Also, I fixed the pronunciation for "happy birthday". I asked some family members and no one actually ever says this in Teochew, so I guess I'm just going by what most other people on the internet use.
